GD 141 ~ Jie Mei

Dear Kristen Mohr,

How are you doing?! Your help is very important to me! Your help means that I can pursue my dream now and even realize it. Thank you!

Do you know when I got your help, it gave me confidence? It's like I was a lost lamb suddenly finding my way home. I was so happy. At first, when I left the gates of my middle school, I thought, “I have to go out of the mountains, leave my hometown and change my fate.” But when I received the admission notice to this school, I saw sadness in the eyes of my family. I knew I shouldn't think about high school. In my family, I am not the smartest child and my family is really poor. I felt like I had to give up. I couldn't be a (financial) burden of my family.

During those two months, I was sad. Then, my teacher in middle school talked to me and made me feel better. I realized that I have to fight for my dream. There might be a chance. Today, I will tell myself, “I am not always the best, but I can do better.”

In the future, I hope I can be an exceptional person through my hard work. With your help, I have the chance to continue with my education. Thank you. In the future, I will help other children like me, just like you are doing. I will tell them, “The world will be beautiful, as long as you fight for it.”

Three years from now, my wings will become stronger. I will be able to fly then, fly to the top university.

Thank you!
Best wishes,

Jie Mei
